Roles: Concept Development, Shooting, Editing, Audio
I've actually known Anya for years - since college - and it's been pretty interesting to watch her skill and business acumen grow along the way. To that end, it's also been a lot of fun to offer whatever assistance I can on her journey and I really enjoy our collaborations. I will say that this particular video (A Presentation of Breakti Yoga Practice) was one of my favorite projects of all time.
Anya has developed her own style of yoga (Breakti) which loosely defined is a fusion of Yoga and Hip-Hop. It has been well received within the Yoga community but she found herself often having to explain what it meant, describe the positions etc. So I thought as it was a pretty diverse practice with homage to street culture, it would be great present as many positions as possible in as many locations as possible. Which is basically the end result here.
Anya spent DAYS scouting locations for my trip and planned it out perfectly. The entire shoot (sans one or two locations) was done over the course of one day about 14 hours. We started at 5am for sunrise in DUMBO, worked our way over to Coney Island and back to Manhattan. It was tedious but super fun. HUGE props to her for being able to pull it all off.
Below is the second video we made the following day - which is more of a classroom and overview piece.
